Tony I quess I now rate as an old timer. Younger folks always comment on how hard we use to work. Well we did work hard but then you have to remember that you didn't have to farm 1000 acres or more back then to make a living so plowing 10 acres or so a day was all that we needed. An average farmer in northern Kansas only farmed 160 acres and only 1/3 to 1/2 of that was row crop with the remainder being pasture or hay ( which you only turned over every 5 yrs or so). We didn't expect 4-8 bottom plows , enclosed cabins with AC etc. The Allis WC , JD A's and Farmall H/M's were quite adequate for what we needed.Most people had moved up to these tractors from Horses ( I'm not that old but I do remember my Uncles working horses )so any of these tractors seemed great.

In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999.
