Having driven a Farmall 656, JD 3020 and Ford 5000, I would (for a chore tractor) take the 5000 first and the 656 last. I dont like the 656 engine or tranny as much as the others. If you want a red tractor I'd go with the 706 just for the tranny. I thought the later 310 engine was better but I've never driven one. I know this is an IH forum and the Farmall would likely outpull the others but you asked about a chore tractor, the 706 is good, others might be a little better. My two cents.
