You can use a DPDT switch to "kill" the mag, and "excite" the alternator, OR you can use an oil pressure switch to operate the "excite" line to the alternator, per BobM's diagram. Or, you can convince yourself the goofy "one-wire" alternator is the best thing since sliced bread, which seems to be the popular thing to do around here!
