I think you have answered your own question to a point (no pun intended). The points are getting some oxidation on them possibly from humidity or another source. Some folks will try WD-40 in the cap to try and prevent this; I have seen plastic bags tied around the distributors in an attempt to keep them dry. My opinion is that moisture is getting on those points causing them to corrode just a bit. Make sure the vents in the bottom of the cap are open and that you drive out as much moisture out of the distributor as possible with a hair dryer and let it cool before you put the cap on. Their may even be moisture further back in the distributor that is working its way into the point area but when the weather is warm evaporates before the points corrode. Just some ideas, good luck!
