Alan, If you can find the marking LM on the barrel, the M1 you have was generally one of the most accurate M1's ever made. They weren't made at the IH plant down in Indy, but only came out of the Evansville IN plant from around '53 to '56. If you want some of the odd background, read up about Garand himself. I think he once built an ice skating rink in his living room -- a bit eccentric.
