I'm a 40 year old Mechanical Design Engineer in the Aerospace industry in South-Central Kansas. Tractors as follows:
1947 Farmall B - Bought as a running tractor. Restored 6V electrical system and replaced axle grease seals and brake bands. My dad uses the tractor at his small farm to brush hog, rake hay, and entertain grandkids. When I have it at home, it becomes a playground for my 3-year old son and I entertain the neighborhood kids with it. I eventually want to overhaul the engine and finish a "parade restoration" on it.
1941 J.D. A - Bought with engine stuck and missing parts. I got the engine running this summer and I am currently working over the clutch. I plan to use both tractors to cut and bale a few acres of hay part-time. My 3-year old says that both tractors are his and that I just borrow them to work on them.

I grew up on a wheat and cattle farm in central Kansas. We farmed with a '39 Farmall H, a SW-6TA, and a W-9 (replaced by a M-M G-VI). My parents knew that they couldn't stay on the farm AND afford college educations for 5 kids, so they sold off the equipment and we moved off the farm when I was 11. I currently live in the suburbs, but I have bids in on a couple of small plots of land. I plan to start up a "hobby-farm" operation within the next couple of years. Like THE RED, I spend waaaaay too much time on this Y.T. web site (ain't it great).

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
