The original engine in the W-40 series tractors was not a Red Diamond. The Red Diamonds were a truck engine with a counter-balanced crankshaft, a better engine, but not original. The quickest way to tell is that the logo on the magneto side of the engine will say International through the triple diamond logo, and the truck engine will usually say Red Diamond through the logo. The original displacement for a W-40 was 298cid. A Red Diamond can go as high as 450cid., obviously making a much more powerful tractor out of it. That's why it is very common to see this done. As for originality, of course it's not right, but it is very common. Hope this helps you out!
