I would say it is the condensation from temp changes. Perhaps if you live in a desert, it would not be a problem. I think it takes some 5 years to actually happen. Probably takes a while for all of the oil slide or evaporate off the cylinders. Its really not that much rust in many cases, just enough. Like each cylinder is stuck a little, so the amount of pressure to break them all free is quite a bit. If the exhaust was left uncovered you probably will have to tear the engine to pieces. -Greg
