There should be some comments in the archives of this site dealing with your problem. Personally, I would probably do it right and remove the deck cover to get the bull gear off the axle. Gives you a chance to check everything else in the tranny while your in there. I did it through the PTO hole to change a bull pinion seal/bearing once and its a real PITA getting that heavy bull gear back onto the inner end of the axle. I was working alone as well.//FB
