If lumber is good and solid, don't be afraid to use it in the actual construction of house. It very well could be better lumber than what you can buy at the lumber yard. If a contractor is doing the construction of house, be darn sure he credits you for the lumber you furnish for the house. Personally, I have been disappointed in the quality of new lumber. Often times it doesn't even match the quality of lumber salvaged out of old buildings.
