I don't think I'd advise using heat(fire) on a gas tank lid. I've heard of 55gal. fuel drums that have been sitting empty for years going boom when someone tries to torch them. You might end up having to take the tank off the tractor and submerse at least the cap in penetrating oil for awhile.
