Hello Frank, This is the common rule / all IH farm tractors were painted gray until Nov. 1, 1936. After that they were painted red. An except (on later tractors - a farmer could order a tractor to be painted any color he wanted) may have ocured for this tractor, but it is doubted. It would have been painted gray (for a 1929 tractor). With the IH crawlers - it has been said that from the McCormick Deering T-20 (1931 to 1939) and later crawlers were painted red. Hope that this sheds some light on this tractor. Regards, Milton
