I was pretty nervous the first time I did this myself. Go to the battery, it gives your whole system a "buffer" that will help keep anything really bad from happening. The trick is to get the biggest jumper cables you can. Then only keep them on the battery as long as you need. They start to heat the very second you put them on the battery and if you aren't careful they can be too hot to touch when you try to take them of, gloves might be a good idea. So hook them up, TRUCK OFF! Jump on the tractor, fire it up, reach down and get that positive lead off quick. Then get the neg. and c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y get down and disconnect the other end. We have been doing this for a long time and only ever had one slip-up. My cousin Tom slipped one time on a wet spot on the axle. When he reached out to catch himself he brought the two leads together. The resulting shock threw him over backwards, fortunately I had parked the tractor with the mower turned sideways beind so he landed in soft grass. I heard him hollar when he got shocked and ran from what I was doing. He was dizzy for a long time. Honestly you'd be alot better off to A. get some help or B. charge your battery overnight. Or both.... Better to wait until you have hope than lying down in a pine box six feet under.
