Randy, on my 300U a previous owner/mechanic had replaced the 3/8 bolts with 7/16 studs. I suspect he had a similar problem, as he put 7/16 helicoils in a couple of the holes, and it looks like the casting around the holes had been damaged. There is plenty of room for the 7/16 helicoils and studs, but you will also need to drill out the holes in the clutch cover to accomodate them, as they are a pretty snug fit for a 3/8 inch. You will probably also need to drill out the holes in the steering box. Also check to make sure your steering gearbox stabilizer, which mounts to the front of the gearbox, is in place and intact. It takes up a lot of the reaction loads on the gearbox.
