I made the first I needed from the steering shaft from an old "A" that I had, and it has been working fine. I heated the rod and made two bends where I thought they needed to be. I believe this rod has probably held up better than the original rods because it seems to be very hard and does not bend easily. I am in the process now of making another one for the Farmall 100 I have out of 7/8" cold rolled rod. I don't believe it is going to be as strong as the steering shaft because it is steel with a low carbon content and cannot be adequately hardened. I wish someone could post a picture of a factory one, that would probably help us both.
