78 1/4 inches tall is to the top of the steering wheel and does not include the muffler. I speak from experience here. The M will go through a 7 ft door if you cut off all but about 4 inches of the exit pipe of the muffler and do not have a flipper cover on it. I have a 7 ft door, so don't know for sure, but I think the M would go in an 8 ft door with the stock muffler and the flipper. Since you are building a new barn, go with a 9 ft door and then you can get most anything in.
