AS for getting the old ring gear off, I've heard all sorts of suggestions, many of which assume you have an assortment of very hot torches at your disposal. In my case, I was able tap it off using an oak dowel after heating it with a mapp torch--can't say whether that was enough hotter than propane to make a difference, but the gear tapped off nicely. If you don't have any luck heating and tapping, others suggest careful use of an angle grinder and chisel to cut it. To get the new one on, the post below pretty much covers it, except that you may want to send the ranking memeber of the distaff side of the household out on an errand before you start filling the family freezer and oven with tractor parts. I didn't find it necessary to freeze the flywheel. Heated the gear in a 500 deg oven while I was working the old one off. IT was a little scary when I first put the new one on. I had a gap of almost 1/16th all the way around, but it tightened up just fine when it cooled. Good luck!
