The arms should be cast steel. No impact castings were made of cast iron after sometime in the late 20's ir early 30's. Since they look like cast iron, they often get repaired with nickle. They likely have been welded with nickle. Grind the weld metal and see if it makes sparks. You will get almost no sparks with nickle. If it is nickle, you should try to grind it all away.

The cast steel is readily weldable. Use 6011 wiht an AC welder or 6011 or 7018 with DC. Preheat it good, not red, then weld and allow it to cool slowly.
