The M diesel is a unique motor. It is a true diesel engine with a standard diesel injection system, plus has a carburetor, spark plugs, etc as in a gasoline engine for starting. If the gas cycle of the motor does not work, the engine cannot be started with the electric starter - the starter does not have the power to spin the engine against the diesel compression. You can however pull start an MD - trick is to get the motor spinning fast enough for the diesel cycle to fire. The gas-start IHC diesel is a good engine, but requires good maintenance and careful operation to insure reliable starting and long life
