There are advantages to both. The faster magnetos run the hotter the spark. However they must incorporate an impulse coupling to give a hot retarded spark during starting, thus they have parts that battery ignition systems don't have. Magnetos have the advantage of creating a spark even if you have a dead battery or a tractor without a battery. Both systems are very reliable, but battery ignition systems will probably run longer without maintenance and are cheaper to buy. You also need some special tools to set the E gap(internal timing) in the mag. I like mags though.
