OT Air Rifles revisited

You may remember the thread of a week or two ago about air rifle recommendations for my daughters.

I decided to go with the Daisy 880 as some had suggested. The reasons I selected this was that it was an economical ($60 w/ scope) rifle that had rifling in the barrel and a quick speed (about 700 fps). It should be a great learning rifle. Don't worry, I'm very meticulous when it comes to firearm safety and will teach them to be as well. I am going to persuade them to take a hunters safety course this spring as well.

I had to order this rifle online as my local hunting supply stores didn't carry it, and to my surprise, neither did Cabelas. I ordered it from airgunexpress.com as suggested.

Thanks again for your suggestions and help. I'll give you an update on how it is going after Christmas.

Jay

That's good Jay. Be prepared to buy another one if they both like it. Glad to see a father and his daughters spending quality time together.

Jay, I bet you and the girls will enjoy lots of hours of fun with the pellet rifles. Good way to bring them up to let them know the in`s and out`s on gun safety and target shooting. My kids still talk about the fun we had and they are in their 40`s. They are teaching or taught their kids the same way but the older grandkids are hunting deer and elk now.

I am hoping that this is a beginning. Hunting is great together time. Where my Dad & I couldn't get along on many things when I was young, we always took a week and went hunting together. He was no longer the boss, but my friend. Now since we are both older, we get along all the time ;) I hope this will inspire them to move on to bigger guns and better things with me. My wife wasn't crazy about this, but not exactly opposed either.

I'm really looking forward to this!

You'll shoot your eye out..you'll shoot your eye out!
Really Dad would never let us boys have a BB gun of any type. He always said they were too prone to richochets (or some spelling like that). instead we used .22s and Dad's old Ithaca 16 gage. For my 12th Christmas Dad gave me a .300 Savage. Figured if I was man enough to tote that through the woods all day, I was man enough to own it. Shot a 12 point right under Dad's nose the following year with it. I think he was sleeping, he said I scared it to death. Mom finally gave me my BB gun when I turned 18. My Father's old Daisy 1 pump. She figured I'm blinder than a bat and wear perscription safety glasses all the time anyway.

Yes and i think Lewis shot a Crow indian with it on the return trip causing the hatred of white men by the Crows. COurse they were threatening Lewis's party at the time.
