I restored my 29 D last summer, and I changed the cork float with a brass float. When I try to start it, I have to pull start it and usually start within the first couple of feet. It will not start with the flywheel. My question is, would my float maybe be out of adjustment, and how do you go about adjusting it so it is right? I have seen on ebay a float adjusting kit, but I figured that there must be an inside trick to it. I am also wondering about adjusting the valves, if you could give me a quick run down that would be great!! Thank You for your time

Broken impulse spring or sluggish mag is first thing coming to my mind too when you said you can pull start it but not hand crank it. What mag do you have on it? Does the impulse click when turning it over slowly? Have to engage the impulse by hand on those older Splitdorf / Dixie mags also but they should wind up and click and spin the mag over faster for starting. Is it running rich or smoking once you get it started? If not it's the ignition or timing most likely and not the carb. Depending on which carb you have on it too some of those are kind of tricky to figure out how long to choke and open back up and each one seems to have it's own best way of starting sometimes. It also helps some if you have those priming cup compression cocks to pour some gas in before starting. Timing valves? Basically the same as any 2 cylinder and here someplace in archives but I'm too lazy to look tonight. You restored it with no manuals?? They tell how to do that. Early D manuals: DIR3C or DIR108 Instructions, & SMF116 Service Manual and PC658 Parts Catalog.

Probably the impulse spring in the mag is broken.Does it click when you turn ikt over? But still maybe bad.
