I was wondering what kind of power is needed to run this combine. My A with a powerblock and G carb( approx. 330 cubes) seemed to be able to keep up when I ran it for about 30 feet. A 60 with live PTO would be nice but I don't have one. Is 28-30 HP enough?

Thanks

In wheat you'll likely have to clip the heads off, and then go back with a sickle bar mower to cut the straw. If you try to cut it low it will take a ton of power.

I run my 30 all day with my '50 A and no problems what so ever. Dont take much HP to run combine just enuff tractor to hold it on the hills when bin is full of wheat or rye!!

I think you said you were in the Lafayette area? I am at Purdue. I just bought a 30 this year. Used it on some wheat. Started to do some soybeans with it this year, but the field wasn't worth wasting my time in. Then to find out the augar won't work now I have to figure out why and get the beans out of the bin. Email some if you want sometime. mwhowtonAThotmail.com replace the AT with @

Both my grandparents work at Purdue and I live in Zionsville, IN. Their farm is in West Point, IN. I hope this link works, never done it before. Also, if you return to the photos, there is another picture next to it on the list.

Thanks

Its a 37 unstyled A but the powerblock gives it a styled A engine and the bigger carb tacks on 1-2 HP so it is basically a styled A powerwise. Can't wait to use it in some wheat. Used it in some soybeans this year but with a 4020, little big but live power and hydraulics were mighty nice like you said. The hydraulic outlet on the A is a remote come-along. LOL

Thanks

I see you still havent figured out what block you have in that tractor because the power block was never made for an unstyled tractor and not the 39-40 styled either and the block for a 41-46 will not bolt in and neither the block from a 47-52 and the tractors for a power block also had a longer stroke engine

Should be no problem. Used a 530 on one for a few years and ran it easily. Live PTO is mighty nice, though.

Years ago, I pulled a JD 30 with a JD A, stock engine. No problems, but live pto is much better.
