Rear brakes are hardly working, I suspect they are full of oil as both rear wheels show oil leaking. Is it a big job to replace the rear seals? The manual shows tools I am not familiar with or have access to. Is this something I should try and do or is it best left to the pro's? Any tips for a rookie

WIrob, the answers you have gotten are all correct as far as I concerned. Good torch man can split these locks and not destroy the brg or cup. Ford had a fixture to control the drill bit angle and a special punch to split the lock collar. They also had a fixture to pull the assembly apart. Our guys in the shop thought the puller was too slow, they simple got two strong guys to pick up the axle by the backing plate and slam the axle down on some solid concrete. About 3 slams and apart she came...thanks, Kelly.

See the past posts on the subject of replacing Rear Axle Seals.
And here is a picture of the puller I made for my job.

I just went out today and picked up the parts for the job on my 850. I did the job on my 860 last year. It is a labor intense job and is not recommended for a novice mechanic. With that said it can be done without the special tools shown in the manual, one of our regulars on the board Jim from Ut made up a jig for pulling the bearings if he sees the post maybe he will repost the pictures so you can see how to make one. I do them with a cutting torch and no puller. The hard part is getting the assembly apart, after that it is really a breeze replacing bearings and seals. A total in parts from New Holland was $140.00 with 4 extra shims for both sides. That price did not include new brakes as the oil has not gotten to mine yet and they are only a year old. Post back if you need any further. Dave
