Thank you all for your help!A bit of new information for your consideration... I was able to get the starter to engage by attaching the positive lead of a set of jumper cables (which were attached to my pickup battery) to the detached end of the battery cable that connects the positive battery terminal to the starter. With the negative lead of the jumper cables attached to the detached battery end of the negative battery cable, the starter would not engage. So I attached the negative lead of the jumper cables to a bolt on the engine and the starter would engage. I removed the entire negative battery cable (which is well grounded on the frame/block of the tractor, not to the dash) and attached the negative lead of the jumper cable to the removed negative battery cable and tried to ground it on the same bolt used in the sentence above. The starter would not engage, leading me to believe that the negative battery cable could be faulty. There is no visible evidence that there is anything wrong with it, and no reason that I can imagine that it has all of the sudden “gone bad”, but I really don’t know what else to do. I think this afternoon I will reattach the negative battery cable to it’s grounded place on the tractor to insure a good connection and with the jumper cables attached to the battery end of the battery cables, see if the starter will engage. If not, I guess I’ll try replacing the negative battery cable and see what happens. Does this sound like a reasonable approach? Thanks again, Rick Does this sound
