i bought a ford 950 trike from a guy in south florida.
when i got there. it was clear he was in way over his head. he had bought the unit as a project tractor to restore and sell.
he had sprayed paint stripper all over it.. and paint ewas peeling up and flaking everywhere.
he had started repainting the rims. just rattle canning right over the flaked paint.
it had no charge system just a jerry-rigged pulley system.. no exhaust.. rear PA rims were welded in place. no dash gauges.. not even oil pressure. oil line was broke off and pounded flat.. and it dripped... so that told me it had some oil pressure anyway.. :).. no switches of any kind. to start it you had to pull the (loose) battery hot terminal off the battery and then jamb the wire to the coil under the battery terminal and wedge it down.. then screwdriver across the solenoid... in fact.. points were so worn down and out of adjustment i had to rest them there on the spot using a folded business card as a quickie gauge.. owner thought he was gonna be stuck with it cuz it would not start.. :) .... fuel tank was from a vw product.. no brackets. was held free floating in the hood 'area' with garden hoses tiering it in. from tank out to carb were 3 different hoses and pipes.. copper.. black rubber edpm 'fuel' line.. and a high pressure fuel line that had a gm truck fuel injection part number on it.. all jumbled up to the carb.. and it leaked.. because the high pressur eline was hose clamped to the copper and apparrently not compressing well. tin and dash showed evidence of a fire.. oh yeah.. it had no gas in it either...and the owner admitted i had been in a fire he started by the leaking gas and the screwdriver start..t. in fact.. it had no batery.. i had to take mine off the winch on the trailer... old bat burned up.
as i was looking at it.. the owner walked over and sighed and said he was just 'not handy'
I decided to take it home. as i was loading it up.. his wife came home and saw me driving it out of the garage and towards my trailer. his wife came over and thanked me after that.. :)
poor guy.
tractor with no gas.. no battery.. and points not even in condition to make it run... I HAD to buy it from him.. just to save the poor machine from that owner. :)
