The piston rings are burnt out of my AC 5040 from using too much starting fluid over the years. Previous user used starting fluid instead of fixing a bad starter. I'm tired of choking on white smoke. My 5040 has the 3 cylinder Perkins diesel. To replace the rings, I know I'll have to split the tractor and block it up. Then, drain the oil, take off the bottom plate of the engine block, and pull out the pistons. I have never done this kind of thing before. Is there anything in particular I should watch for or that I need to know? Are the pistons hard to get out and hard to get back in once the new rings are on? Once I get the bottom piece of the engine block i should be able to unbolt them from the crankshaft and slide them right out, correct? I appreciate any helpful advice. Thanks, Jeff
