Unless you are plugged from the brake bands to the transmission the oil from the seal should drip out of the hole below the brake bands and not the flange. If it is clear of trash then my guess is that it is coming from a stud. I would try to remove the bottom studs one at a time and put sealer on them. You might have to buy a coupla jam nuts and lock them fast to each other to turn them out without damaging the threads. Jam nuts are thin nuts that would let you put two on in place of the one that is on it now without being tight against the flange.
