Improved starting/higher compression was implemented at 6080 engine serial 20833. Manifold heaters were added at tractor serial 5639(Dec '83). I believe the engine block was reinforced and a larger internal thrust bearing installed sometime in the early 1982 model year. I have a late 1981 serial number 2096 6080 and it has the external "helper" on it. Your AGCO dealer can get you the info you seek... as I got it... but can't remember where I put it. There are multiple reasons for keeping the pto clutch in the engaged mode all the time, except when actively using the PTO. However, when I pull out of the field after spreading manure or chopping, I instinctively reach down and push the PTO engagement lever down. Remember, to engage the PTO gear train the engine must be not running. Get yourself an operators manual and shop manual and read them cover to cover, multiple times and refer to them often. If you have an external thrust washer helper kit.. get the adjustment instructions from your AGCO dealer. And remember, if you have trouble getting the transmission out of gear, on an incline, then you probably should check your external thrust washer helper tolerances/clearance and make the proper adjustments. Our 1981, 6080 has only 3670 hours on it. As the engine is in very good condition we only need to give it a small shot of ether below 40 degrees.

Some of them only bring their noses down out of the air long enough to look down them anyway. If you are like me you are only doing this old tractor stuff because you enjoy it. You
