I know a lot of people don't like the appearance of the after market inline fuel filters, but one of those METAL, hose connect filters, after a good carb clearning, have sure saved me a lot of down time and aggrivation. I use one on each tractor and darn the asthetics. If it gets clogged, you can blow backwards thru it and get by for while till you can replace it.
I took all the risers off my sediment bowls-- if any water gets in my tank, I want it in the sediment bowl, not still in the tank adding more rust. If rust and sediment are evident, with the aid of a flaslight, I use one of those telescopic pocket magnets to lift out as much as I can, then swab the drained tank with pieces of tee shirt and a long screw driver, and fish the shirt piece out with a claw retriever. I just persist till the rag comes out prety free of junk. I don't have to disturb much and with a new inline filter the fuel hassels stay away for years.
It seems like those fuel problems always bite you when you're in a hurry, in a parade, at the far back corner of the land, on the road, and/or when there are plenty of witnesses!
