I have a WD-45 with a Marvel Schebler TSX-464 carb that is giving me fits. The main jet will not stay adjusted. you can start the tractor and run for awhile, but then it starts missing. If you get off and adjust the main jet it will run fine for awhile, but then the same thing occurs again and again. I have rebuilt the carb, but the kit did not have a new main jet adjustment valve. Would appreciate any suggestions.

I know a lot of people don't like the appearance of the after market inline fuel filters, but one of those METAL, hose connect filters, after a good carb clearning, have sure saved me a lot of down time and aggrivation. I use one on each tractor and darn the asthetics. If it gets clogged, you can blow backwards thru it and get by for while till you can replace it.

I took all the risers off my sediment bowls-- if any water gets in my tank, I want it in the sediment bowl, not still in the tank adding more rust.
If rust and sediment are evident, with the aid of a flaslight, I use one of those telescopic pocket magnets to lift out as much as I can, then swab the drained tank with pieces of tee shirt and a long screw driver, and fish the shirt piece out with a claw retriever. I just persist till the rag comes out prety free of junk. I don't have to disturb much and with a new inline filter the fuel hassels stay away for years.

It seems like those fuel problems always bite you when you're in a hurry, in a parade, at the far back corner of the land, on the road, and/or when there are plenty of witnesses!

I have had some of the same problems as you. The tractor does not run right my problem was due th o rust in the tank. I solved this by removing the sediment bowl attachment from the gas tank I then found a piece of copper tube the same size as the center hole in the bowl valve I then drilled a pair of holes in the tube to let fuel in and allow it to flow into the bowl. The holes are about 1/8 in. or so and are drilled in a cross ways configuration one set is about 1/8 up from the top of the valve the other set is up from that the whole thing is about 1 1/2 in. long. The tube is just pushed into the valve. This keeps the larger pieces of rust and junk from blocking the inlet, at the same time it allows the fuel to flow freely in to the bowl.

I can tell you with certainty that just ONE Drop of water in the sediment bowl will cause a WD-45 to miss, when working it hard....

Ron.

Make sure you don't have any obstructions in the tank or the gas line. A lot of fuel related problems turn out to be dirt in the tank.

Sounds like when you rebuilt the carb you didn't put in a new packing behind the lock nut on the main jet adjustment screw and what is happening is when you run it the vibrates and then turns in or out. Easy fix is to pull the main jet back out and install that packing

it should have a nut to lock the needle in place. i have seen a few with a spring to keep tension on the needle

I had the same trouble with my CA and a Zenith carb. It had had fuel go bad in it. I put a kit in the carb and constantly had to fool with the main needle. Sometimes it would overflow. I fixed it by putting on a new sediment bowl and new steel line to the carb. The new sediment bowl doesn't have a riser on it so any water and junk ends up in the bowl where I can dump it out. Going on 10 years now trouble free.
