On my way home this morning I had to come through where the tornado crossed Rt. 501 in Halifax Co. Just behind the store was where a lady was thrown out of a mobile home and she died in the road ditch.The mobile home went through the air about 50 yards. 7 others injured. 30 homes destroyed and oak timber laying all over the place. Roads blocked and power lines down in all directions.
This is new to us here. We've had small tornadoes in the past as far back as the 70's but this one is far larger than anything I've seen in person. A good friend of mine in west Kentucky told me a month ago that tornado alley had shifted to the east. For now it seems he's right.
We have so much forest land here you can't see them coming until they are right on top of you. We have pretty good warning systems but if you try and get out of the way the question is which way do you go.
Lord help all the folks that got hit yesterday. We just had one local. Can only imagine what's it's like in those areas that had so many.
