I tried about everything mentioned except for the casset tape hanging. About 5 years ago a wild (female) cat moved into the barn. Not long after the birds all moved out. I have not seen a mouse or a rat since either. I keep about 5 of the cats around now and feed them enough dollar store cat food to still keep them from getting lazy. I did have to build a ramp out of the livestock tank as a couple slipped and fell in getting a drink of water when the tank got down a little. They have lots of hay and straw to keep warm in the winter and they always have steer feed if they get too hungry. Never liked cats too well but they do a good job for me.
