keeping birds out of shed

How do I keep birds from nesting in my pole shed?trying to keep doors closed but hard to do seeing its the shop.Thinking of getting a plastic owl and mounting next to door?

Tried lots of stuff, hung plastic sheets from trusses, fishing line, etc. Nothing worked. Let me know if you figure it out.

Pieces of tape from a VHS cassette unwound and either stapled at door ways or tied around rafters work great. They shine in the light, and are so light even a breath of wind so faint you cannot fell it on your faces causes them to move and wiggle. birds won't come anywhere near them. The only time they will not work is if the birds are already actively nesting, then they will come in no matter what unless you remove the nest and smear a little grease where it was. They will NOT come in to start one in a new location though.

A hay customer tried everything over the course of probably ten years then had wire screening put up to undersides of trusses.

Tried hanging a cat from the trusses and my wife got mad.. Cat wasnt too happy either. The cat kept getting loose and leaving. Now the cat wont rub against my leg and let me pet it anymore. Guess at least some good came out of it.

I tried about everything mentioned except for the casset tape hanging. About 5 years ago a wild (female) cat moved into the barn. Not long after the birds all moved out. I have not seen a mouse or a rat since either. I keep about 5 of the cats around now and feed them enough dollar store cat food to still keep them from getting lazy. I did have to build a ramp out of the livestock tank as a couple slipped and fell in getting a drink of water when the tank got down a little. They have lots of hay and straw to keep warm in the winter and they always have steer feed if they get too hungry. Never liked cats too well but they do a good job for me.

My Friend that ownes this CNH Dealership had bigtime problems with birds pooing all over everything in this storage and display building that I built for him. We boxed in the top plates, and stretched bird netting under all the truss structure, so there was no place for them to roost and build nests overhead. They still get the ocasional bird that lands on the equipment, but the machines arn't covered with poo any more.
