Yes they are raised beds. We have used this method for nearly 15 years now. Weed control is very easy, soil managment can be taylored to each crop, and we can concentrate plant population for max yield per sq. ft. We are also growing more climbing/vertical crops with simple trellises in boxes. We haven't bought vegies at a store for several years. We can, freeze, and cold store our produce. This year we are hopeing to sell enough produce to offset our planting, canning, and freezing costs. I am also planning to try growing black berries in old car tires this year. The area between the boxes has black plastic under about 2-3" of colorful river washed #2 stone which restricts weed growth, and stablizes ground temp. We don't have a green house, but one of my 1st cousins runs a comercial greenhouse operation just a few minutes drive from me. Pic was taken last summer, on the west side of the garden building.
