The US cannot control the traders of all the nations that depend on the region and know their economies cannot withstand oil supply interruptions. The price increases of 1979 are a text book example and dwarfed the price rises of the 1973 -74 Arab oil embargo. The exact same thing, hedging and speculating against supposed future price increases is currently happening in regards to midwest farmland prices and used equipment prices, even though this behavior caused the farm crisis of the 80's.
