We have run our 5 foot king kutter behind our JD M, it's ok in grass or small brush and like others have said you can always take less than a full cut after the first round. The M horsepower is about the same as the C, which we also have with a belly mower on. One thing about the older tractors that you don't know the history of, unless you dyno them you don't really know the horsepower. Another problem with older tractors is they are usually geared quite high.
