I think the gentlemen is referring to a rifle in case there is a break-down of society and we must protect our farms and homes(which is not out of the realm of possibility) I keep 3 of my Chinese-friend made SKS rifles with a crate of ammo in the safe. Colt Detective special .38 in the wives nightstand, Ruger Mark II .22 hidden in the kitchen, .40 Taurus in my truck. Hunting guns in the safe: Ruger No.1 in .280, Ruger M77 in Ought'6, and various remington 870 wingmasters, Ruger .22's, Ruger PC-40 .40 carbine and even a .22 chipmunk. All with plenty of ammo. I really would love to own a Garand one day
