Well, they are 1/2 price in mid summer, and double price now. ;) I'd see a lot of $800-2500 good used ones all summer - 8 foot, 2 auger, 2-stage, made for 100-150hp tractor. Now, I'd assume everyone is sold out & asking new price for anything available.
To run one you NEED a tractor with live or independent pto, and you really want several reverse gears, you NEED a slow reverse.
match the size of the blower to the size of the tractor. Don't mess with a Vee plow. There are single stage that are ok - one fast spinning cross auger; and there are 2-stage that are generally considered a bit better - one or 2 slow spinning cross augers, and a high speed fan or blower at 90 degrees to eject the snow.
