Mount Pinatubo, on the island of Luzon, erupted massively in June of 1991. It injected more toxic matter into the atmosphere than all of man's activities for as long as man has been on earth. Aerosols from this one eruption, and there have been many other eruptions in the past, formed a global layer of sulfuric acid haze. Global temperatures dropped about .9F during this period and beautiful sunsets were observed for about two years afterward. Today, it's all but forgotten.
