I remember my younger sister working for a "mom and pop" store in our home town. After she clocked out at closing she was expected to work another hour before she went home (unpaid). If the owners needed a baby sister on the weekends guess who got called and expected to work for free?
The owners drove two Lexus cars and carried the same imported crap as Wal-Mart only at a much higher price. When Wal-Mart tried to move to town they protested at the top of their lungs about "buy American". Instead Wal-Mart put three stores in all about 40 miles away - and killed our home town's businesses. I can't say it hurt my feelings at all. In the three towns Wal-Mart went to some businesses closed but others thrived from the extra shoppers Wal-Mart brought to them.
