The only situation where a 2WD might equal a MFWD in terms of pull is on dry asphalt, fully ballasted. Otherwise the MFWD will win every time provided both are ballasted to their best advantage. It's a simple statistic for those inclined to study statistics. I'm not saying that a well ballasted 2WD can't be made to outpull a poorly ballasted MFWD in some situations because I'm sure it could be done to prove the point... but as a generalization the MFWD tractor will have more pull for the simple reason that you can seldom achieve optimal ballast on a 2WD. There is always a compromise... and MFWD makes better use of the tractor when those compromises are factored in.
