Wondering if anyone has experience in using a case 2470 and a jd655 mfwd

Which tractor will pull better in slippery conditions ?

Not comparing the two on any other factor - just want to know if the mfwd will pull as well as the well balanced case 2470 ?

No such thing as a 4655 at least in the US and the 655 was a compact. Tire choice (bias vs radial) and ballast would be critical on each for the outcome. Also, the 2470 is in entirely different price range than a 55 series row crop MFWD. Is there more to this story?

Meant JD4650 - have a chance to lease a JD4650 but it has to pull as good if not better than our old case 2470.

Again, tires and ballast will be important for each. I think the Case should have more power and should have more gripping ability on an incline but I think the Deere will be more efficient on fuel per hour (on average) and maybe more productive with the 15 speed power shift. Both engines fresh or is the Case a little tired?

The 2470 could have traction issues if it does not have Detroit Lockers in it's diffs. The JD has a diff lock.I'm not sure what conditions you are placing the tractor in. If it is Ice and you are clearing parking lots or something like that with a front mtd blade and can't use chains the 2470 may have an advantage with it's steering abilities. What are you wanting to do with the tractor? The two designs have distinct advantages over each other in different applications.

Two winters ago I watched a 2470 pulling a big blade clearing snow on the ramp at Lambert Field in St Louis. It wasn"t having any problems with traction.

I have 2470 and I am very happy with the way it pulls up and down my clay hills when alittle wet.I am not fermilar with The Jd you metion so not sure of the Hp or weight of tractor.I am 100% positive the 2470 does way better on fuel as no Jd I every had the privalage of driving did good on fuel.(not saying none do)I farmed 54 acres last year and 1 tank of fuel worked it all twice half of it 4 times and seeded it all.I know this only because I didn't have enough money to buy fuel so what I had in the tank was all I could use.I pull a 26 foot IH deep tiller but have to lift out on the hills or shift down a couple a gears.

The only situation where a 2WD might equal a MFWD in terms of pull is on dry asphalt, fully ballasted. Otherwise the MFWD will win every time provided both are ballasted to their best advantage. It's a simple statistic for those inclined to study statistics.
I'm not saying that a well ballasted 2WD can't be made to outpull a poorly ballasted MFWD in some situations because I'm sure it could be done to prove the point... but as a generalization the MFWD tractor will have more pull for the simple reason that you can seldom achieve optimal ballast on a 2WD. There is always a compromise... and MFWD makes better use of the tractor when those compromises are factored in.
