Always wondered what the economics were of the painted barns and Burma Shave signs. Was it a one time payment or did the landowners submit periodic invoices? And how much?
As far as I can tell, the painters never got a foothold into the New England countryside but there were alot of city buildings with advertisements. I removed a few with my 50" Skyworker, high-pressure water, and chemicals. Even sandblasted a couple.
There is still a faded Uneeda Biscuit sign in Lowell, MA and the City along with the National Park Service are protecting it. Probably go to jail if someone removed it.
