My older farmer friend asked me to look at his JD 5420 because it lacked power. He said he barely made it back to the shed before it died. I found it kept sucking the fuel filter dry. Fuel line prior to the filter was badly cracked for a 5+/- year old tractor. I replaced the line , but eventually found a bug stuck in the fuel shut-off valve. I found it by blowing compressed air into the shut-off valve backwards. I think the fuel tank fill cap should not be by the 3-point hitch area where there is so much debris. Gerard
