Anything that's unprotected metal in your parts washer will rust if you use a water based cleaner. And the 'environmentally friendly'water based cleaners don't work worth a hoot anyway.
Diesel works well but leaves an oily film, gasoline works well too but you know the danger involved. Mineral spirits dissolves grease fast and it dries off leaving the part dry unless it's time to change the spirits. Mineral spirits does cost more but it can be re-used for a couple of years for the average non-professional shop. Go with the mineral spirits. Jim
