What specific tractor? I've bought many newer Chinese replacement starters rated at similar power ratings but gear-reduction instead of direct-drive. They spin the engine a little slower when hot, but much faster when cold.
On my GM diesels, the original Delco 27MT direct-drive is 2500 watts max.
Replacement gear-reduction 28MT is 2500, 3000, or 4000 watts. I've got all three versions and can't really notice the difference. All work great. I installed similar versions on some of my diesel tractors.
If you are talking about putting in a double-power starter - but still direct-drive - I'd be worried a bit about flyhweel damage. But, I'd need more data.
