I have a PU truck and plow. Did a lot of favors. Have had a few favors come back. Have had a lot of receivers who didn't even bother to say thanks.
Had a call from a neighbor lady, about a shut-in lady she cared for.... Would I mind shoving her driveway clear. So for two years I shoved lots of snow for her. NEVER ASKED A CENT - NEVER GOT A THANK YOU. Next season, we got about two inches one night. She was on the phone right away, wanting me to plow her out. Told her I would check it out. Drove thru drive with car on way to church - 2 inches if lucky. Called her back, told her that I didn't even have the plow on the truck, anything I would do would just tear up the yard, didn't need plowing. Her response, "Well, I guess I'll have Bob _______. plow me form now on." Well fine - Bob charges pretty good and tears up the yard pretty good too.
Plowed the church lot out for a number of years. Took me 40 to 60 hours a season, probably more than 60 gallons of diesel. Wore out a couple transmissions. Never asked a cent. No one was happy! Put snow on bushes at edges of lot, piled too high, didn't clean down to the dirt, plowed up too much gravel into edges of lot. Had to rake gravel out of bushes. (which I usually did), weren't johnny on the spot everytime there was something going on, (but they didn't bother to notify me when they cancelled an event, either.) I spent two hours shoving out the lot in a freaking blizzard, one time, only to find they cancelled service. Big brothering my every move. Finally told them I couldn't plow the lot anymore.
A little gratitude does a lot to make a fellow feel good about doing favors.
