The lake effect snow is pretty fluffy so cattle can push through a lot as can a tractor. We have barns and run in sheds that the cattle retreat to. With large round bales feeding is all done by tractor (usually with chains). The snow from nor'easters can be wet and heavy making it a bit more difficult but hungry animals will break a trail to the hay ring. Dairy cattle are kept in barns all year round with the exception of dry cows who live like beef cattle.
