i know this is a dumb question , but for the people in the north east. when you get 4 feet of snow @ one time , what do you do with your cattle and livestock? where do they go and how do you get them fed?

The lake effect snow is pretty fluffy so cattle can push through a lot as can a tractor. We have barns and run in sheds that the cattle retreat to. With large round bales feeding is all done by tractor (usually with chains). The snow from nor'easters can be wet and heavy making it a bit more difficult but hungry animals will break a trail to the hay ring. Dairy cattle are kept in barns all year round with the exception of dry cows who live like beef cattle.

My cattle were in the barn when we get this kind of snow..tractor and blower take care of the yard, I open the door and let the cattle out for a run,fed them inside and bedded them inside.
The most amusing scene I've had was letting them out one morning right after about three feet of lake effect snow, the calves were having a ball, had never encountered that kind of snow, they were running or trying and the snow was up to their backs, they looked like Otters swiming, big Angus bull would take a run and dive into the drifts just like a bunch of kids playing.
